INSPIRED 2023: THE HBAC ARTIST COUNCIL’S TENTH ANNUAL EXHIBITION

MEMBERSHIP
Participation in the tenth annual Inspired exhibition is an exclusive benefit to Huntington Beach Art Center Artist Council members. This anticipated event celebrates member artists working in all mediums of work including print, drawing and painting, sculpture, photography, and video installations.
GALLERY INSTALLATION AND ONLINE EXHIBITION
Inspired 2023 will be on-view in the HBAC galleries and presented in virtual galleries on the Art Center’s website October 21 – December 16, 2023. Artworks require a high-quality digital image for online display. HBAC staff are not able to accommodate special display requests or to re-photograph submitted artworks.
SUBMISSIONS & RESERVATIONS
Online submission form and delivery reservations open Monday, September 11 at 9am for Artists to schedule low-contact drop-off appointments at the Art Center on September 29 and 30, October 2. The reservation form will remain open until Wednesday, September 27 at 5pm.
Artists are required to provide complete artwork information to schedule delivery including ARTIST’S FULL NAME, TITLE, YEAR, MEDIUM, MEASUREMENTS (including frame), RETAIL PRICE (if available for sale), and brief ARTIST STATEMENT. Please limit your statement to no more than two sentences.
LOAN AGREEMENTS AND LABELS
Your online reservation form will auto-fill the Art Center loan agreement and labels. Printed copies of the completed forms will be available for Artists to review and sign on delivery of artwork. For those Artists that prefer paper copies, blank forms are available to pick up at the Art Center front desk or fillable PDF files may be requested by email to complete and return.
ART SALES
The Art Center allocates 70 percent of all artwork sales from the exhibition to the Artist and 30 percent is retained to support future exhibitions. The Art Center will not negotiate prices with a potential buyer. Retail price must be included on loan agreement if artwork is available for sale. Artworks submitted for exhibition without a retail price will be marked NFS (not for sale).
EXHIBITION REQUIREMENTS AND CONDITIONS
Artists are limited to two (2) submissions of original artwork completed in the last two years (2021-2023). Work previously exhibited in any HBAC exhibition is ineligible for submission.
WALL-MOUNTED
Artworks must be finished and ready to hang with sturdy picture-hanging wire and D-rings attached prior to delivery. Works may not exceed 84 inches (including frame) in any direction, and may not exceed 50 pounds in weight. Artworks with inadequate hanging support will not be accepted.

SCULPTURE
Artwork displayed on a pedestal may not exceed 48 inches in width or depth. Floor installation works may not exceed 84 inches in height, 48 inches in width, or 48 inches in depth. Freestanding work must be stable on the floor without additional hardware support.
VIDEO ART
Artists may submit video artwork no longer than 15 minutes in duration in digital format. HBAC accepts duplicate files in DVD format presenting the artwork on loop to facilitate continuous screening. A digital copy must be provided for inclusion in the virtual exhibition. HBAC will not accept nor replace Master DVDs.
DELIVERY AND SHIPMENT
Artists are responsible for artwork delivery and pick up. Mailed artworks not accepted. Sold works may be picked up from the Art Center by the buyer, Artist, or Artist’s agent with appropriate documentation. Artist and buyer must coordinate all shipping and associated costs. Sold exhibition artworks must remain on display until the close of the exhibition on December 16. Please note: the Art Center will close on December 22 for two weeks. Works not retrieved by 5:00 pm will remain secure onsite until the Art Center reopens in January 2023.
ART SHOP
Participation is open to all members. Artists may consign up to two (2) original artworks or design objects for individual sale in the Project Room. All consigned works must be presentation-ready with appropriate hardware to hang or display on a countertop. Wall hanging artworks and sculptures are limited in size to no larger than 18 x 18 x 18 inches. Display design is the sole discretion of HBAC staff. Art Shop works may be delivered to the Art Center during exhibition artwork drop-off dates. Reservations are required. Artists may replace sold inventory up until Saturday, December 2. The Art Center allocates 70 percent of all artwork sales from the exhibition to the artist and 30 percent is retained to support future exhibitions.
OPENING RECEPTION AND EVENTS
The Artist Council Steering Committee and HBAC staff will host a public opening reception, Art for Lunch, and the Artist Council Holiday Party onsite at the Art Center during the exhibition. Updated event information regularly posted to https://www.huntingtonbeachartcenter.org/artist-council.html.
MEMBERSHIP
This is an Artist Council member-only exhibition. New and renewed memberships submitted by September 27, 2023 are eligible to participate in the Inspired 2023 exhibition. The Art Center reserves the right to refuse service, terminate online profiles, remove or edit content, or cancel loan agreements under its sole discretion.
