This shoe is a testament to my mother. Someone who's worth ethic is only matched by her amazingly beautiful artist's heart and soul. My mom works tirelessly at her sales job in the landscaping industry, a job literally full of lush blooms and flowers, but hiding underneath the foliage are thorns, stress, deadlines, quotas, and, worst of all, self-doubt. It breaks your heart to see these stresses being put on someone you love with your whole being. However, she never ceases to amaze me with her calm persistence and dedication. “Kill them with kindness.” She says. And it works. She just loves being around plants. If a flower catches her attention, she will always stop what she’s doing, no matter how “important” it may be, to take a moment and appreciate every part of the flower, the leaves, the stem, the soil in which it grows. And you can watch the world around her slow down and eventually pause as she and the flower make eye-contact. And in those moments it's hard not to realize how connected we all are. And how indescribably and painfully beautiful our natural world is. And how deep my love is for my mother. When people talk about religion, that is Mom’s religion. And it’s mine, too.
