California Fibers: The Languages of Fiber, invites viewers to consider fiber as a form of communication—one that speaks through structure, material, and process.
Fiber art can be a form of communication, speaking through structure, material, and process. The artists in this exhibition take familiar fiber techniques and use them in unexpected ways, combining traditional methods with new ideas to create works that feel both structured and natural. Some artists challenge traditional textile techniques to explore ideas like change and transformation, while others draw on skills passed down through generations to tell stories about their memories, identities, and experiences. Throughout the exhibition, the materials and the process of making become part of the story, showing how fiber can communicate powerful ideas.
