Guest moderator Virginia Arce,  Exhibitions Program Coordinator for the City of Irvine, in conversation with curators and jurists Luciana Abait, Lawrence Gape and select exhibiting artists.

Virginia Arce is a Los Angeles-based curator and writer. She received her MFA in Critical and Curatorial Studies from the University of California, Irvine, and BFA from Otis College of Art and Design. Her practice in curation and writing spans independently run artist spaces and projects, arts nonprofits, and various exhibition models. She is co-editor of The Invisible Archive, a bi-national journal based in the United States and Germany focused on performance and time-based art practices. ​

​The Huntington Beach Art Center presents By Degrees: Art and our Changing Ecology, an exhibition addressing critical environmental themes. In response to global warming, artists are reflecting, creating, and examining the climate crisis. Through the artist's lens, By Degrees raises awareness of the severity and scale of ecological change.

RIZOMAS

Rizomas expands on feminist eco plural thought, moving simultaneously between the precision of words, the plurality of oral tradition, the atmospheric components of sound, the performative possibilities of the body, and the constancy of the the material world through the moving image. Each of these components are present as branches that touch on documentary practices, ethnographic collaborations, poetry and voice-over narration, 3D modeling and animation, analogue and digital technology hybrids, as well as social and environmental advocacy.
